About Mick Arnold
After many years of working on larger, mixed media abstract works, I have recently reverted to using oil paint and working on a smaller scale. These paintings derive from the landscape and latterly seascapes too.
I generally work in my sketch books, take these back to the studio and work them up into larger paintings. During this process, they change and become more charged. They hopefully represent a simultaneous impression of many things at the same time. They become a synthesis between the natural and my personal world.
For a long period, my work was “systems” based and concerned mainly with the interaction of colour. Some of the working drawings shown here are beginning to touch upon these concerns again and point the way towards a new series of work.
